Interaction 19: Seattle!

Have you heard the news? Our annual, global gathering for 2019, will be taking place just up the river and through the woods, in beautiful Seattle! February 10th thru the 14th.

We’re thrilled, to say the least. In the weeks and months ahead, we’ll be crafting programming to guide and encourage Portland UX’ers in crafting talks, workshops, or panels to submit. We’re here, we’re weird—let’s barnstorm the global conversations!

Go Forth And Evangelize

What an awesome evening that was, Portland! After a little over a year here, I gotta say, that: between Jared’s presentation and the energy y’all brought to the event, I had one of my best yet evenings in town, yet! Sure, organizing all this can be a lot of work, but, wow: the high from such a great community coming together for inspiration and fun, like that, makes it all worth it.

So: A personal note from me (Nina) to all of you: Thank you, and I’m excited as hell for what’s to come!

As promised: here’s the video of jared’s talk and the UX Tipping Point deck as a PDF. Big shoutout to the Wacom Experience Center, who helped make our evening such a success. We’re definitely looking forward to continued collaboration! 🙂

Even as the last of us were cleaning-up and putting away chairs, we couldn’t stop identifying folks we feel need to show that video. UX Tipping Point Interventionists, unite! Hope to see some of you at UIE’s Interactions Immersive this May!

All design is political, because all politics are designed. The world is a mess because a certain set of people designed it to be a mess. Now we need a different set of people to design our way out of it. This is not a choice. Regardless of whether this is what we wanted or not fascism is knocking on our front door. This is how we knock back.

Donations will be collected by IxDA PDX for The Trevor Project, Planned Parenthood, and ACLU of Oregon, with IxDA getting the refreshments, so… LET’S DO THIS PORTLAND!!!

PS: For donations larger than $50—or—if you’d like to set-up a recurring donation, please tender those transactions at the website of your preferred org, directly, and email us a PDF of your reciept. Eventbrite’s fees stink, and you’ll have more options, that way. Links to each org’s donation page, are above. pdx at ixda dot org is our email.

World IA Day

IxDA Portland in partnership with the IA Institute, are pleased to announce World IA day on Saturday 18th February, from noon to 5pm (yet to nail-down the exact times, but will update this post once that’s set).

RSVP on our Meetup Page.

We’ll be gathering at a location TBD, along with hundreds of our favorite people from around the world who’ll all together connect with us, virtually.

This year our theme is Information Strategy and Structure, and we’re inviting folks in Portland to contact us if they have something they’d like to present, a group project they’d like to propose, or any other ideas they’d like to share. Volunteers? We absolutely need more signups for folks to help out (especially AV folks, for the livestream)!

From the World IA Day website:

World Information Architecture Day is a one-day annual celebration hosted by the Information Architecture Institute and held in dozens of locations across the globe.

We are a community of like-minded professionals and enthusiasts who share the common goal of practicing, learning, teaching and shaping the future of information architecture. We share our thoughts, ideas, and work within an open and welcoming environment. The content created as a result of our celebration is available to everyone and we invite conversation around the work we are doing.

Interest in sponsoring this or other IxDA Portland events to keep us fed and hydrated, or to help future events? YES, please! 🙂

Thank you to World IA Day’s generous worldwide sponsors:
